Iranian American Community of Texas applauds the new U.S. policy steps recently announced by the United States regarding its dealings with the Iranian regime.  Our community supports the United States Treasury in its decision to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist organization.  We also commend the U.S president in his acknowledgement of the clerical regime’s many acts of terrorism and abuses of international norms.

We believe that neither a foreign led war, nor appeasement of the religious tyrants in Iran are viable options.  Indeed, the escalating execution rate and further violations of human rights within Iran foretell of a week regime that is very susceptible and fears the Iranian people.  Accordingly, a U.S. policy that empowers the Iranian people to realize human rights is imperative to American security as well as Middle East stability.

We applaud bipartisan members of congress for supporting our community’s efforts in promoting tangible U.S. policy measures. These measure include congressional effort  (H. Res.188) to ensure Iranian regime officials are held accountable for the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners.  This file must now be forwarded to the U.N. tribunal and regime officials investigated for crimes committed against humanity. We believe that the new policy of curtailing the IRGC must be fully implemented because it remains the main instigator of instability in the Middle East and oppressor of the Iranian people.

The ultimate answer to the Iranian threat resides within Iran and in the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people.  We applaud the administration and congress for acknowledging and confronting regime’s wrongs.  We further encourage the policymakers to work with our community towards a U.S. policy that also recognizes the Iranian resistance.
