IAC-Texas congratulates Congressman Gregory Meeks as HFAC Chair
Houston, 12/3/2020 – Iranian American Community of Texas congratulates Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-NY) for being selected as the next Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
We thank Rep. Meeks for working with bipartisan members of the Foreign Affairs Committee to draft and pass legislations such as House Resolution 372. This measure highlights the incoming Chairman’s focus on advancing, “the fight for human rights across the world,” and his intention to exercise the, “weight of U.S. moral credibility” in the international arena.
Our community also recognizes the important contributions the Texas congressional delegation has made to supporting a Free and Democratic Iran. In particular, we point to H.Res.374 and the 26 bipartisan cosponsors from Texas including Congress Joaquin Castro, who along with 196 other House members condemned Iranian state-sponsored terrorism while, “expressing support for the Iranian people’s desire for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic of Iran.”
We wish Mr. Meeks success in his term as Chairman of the Committee. Regarding Iran, our community members in Texas look forward to working with the next Chair to pursue diplomacy that upholds human rights and reinforces America’s longstanding moral credibility – in the eyes of the oppressed people of Iran and in the international arena.
